Island Beaches in Thailand With Fewer Tourists

For some reason, western tourists think they can get a Robin Crusoe experience without the inconveniences? Lots of luck!

You can get pretty close in a few places but, as you may have guessed, it requires some travel and a bit of .. um .. adventure.

Islands south of Ko Chang offer some possibilities. Koh Mook and Koh Kradat can be reached by semi-scheduled boat if the seas are reasonable. Both islands have good beaches with offshore reefs. Snorkeling and swimming are good .. map of Koh Mook and Koh Kradat

Even farther south is a privately owned island, Ko Kood aka Ko Kut. Koh Kood has a number of villages and several resorts. You may need to get permission to visit .. map of Koh Kood

Buatang Group Located offshore from Sathun Province in the Andaman sea. Mostly people talk about Koh Tarutao because of the 'Survivor' TV show set there .. map of Butang group of islands

Koh Tarutao is part of the huge national park. The waters are idyllic, extraordinarily clear. The island has some great beaches. Accommodations must be arranged through the Thai National Parks service.

Other islands, much farther offshore, are Lipe (the only 'inhabited' island, Rawi, Adang, Butang, Barat, Sawang and Kata.

Rawi and Adang are large islands with great beaches and .. king cobras!

Thailand has many more locations that deserve some exploration .. and the exploration is actually half the fun. Try the islands off Trang, Phangnga, Chumphon, and even the islands off Phuket.
